In 1960, a man named Paul Ehrlich shared his fears of overpopulation in the world through his book called, “The Population Bomb”. He made many predictions about what kind of disasters we would face if drastic measures were not taken. Zero Population Growth became a political movement that wanted to limit births and give rewards to couples without children. However, humanity has managed to survive even with the current population growth. Paul Ehrlich believes that even though his predictions didn’t happen, it doesn’t mean he was wrong.
Mao Zedong, one of the most influential leaders in Chinese history, once said that, “Of all the things in the world, people are the most precious.” One of the biggest problems that he faced was the growing population of China. At first, he discouraged birth control, but when the growth rate was growing astronomically, Mao introduced “Late, Long and Few.” When even this was not slowing down the population growth, China implemented a one-child policy. It allowed for the Chinese population to have one child, and was far more harmful than beneficial to China.
If people lived in a country where they had to follow the rules of a ruthless ruler how would they feel? What would live be to live there? Well for the people of China they had to like under these rules. Some people who lived in China during the time of Mao Zedong. A lot of the people did not like this one child.
The one-child policy helps children in China have a much better life. China’s population was the largest in the world and a very poor country at the same time. Still, the chairman called for people to have even more children. His advisors were against this decision. Finally, in 1980, the one-child policy was placed upon China (BE).
The one child policy was established in China in the 1980s because the population was too big to fuel many people were dieing from starvation. The one child policy is a law that prevents families from having more than one child. Some Chinese people are in favor of the one child policy (OCP) because their lives were made easier. Other people felt it was not fair to have their rights taken away. However the OCP was a good idea because of many reasons like how it improves population, the economy, and the environment.
CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE 1. China's one child policy was a policy implemented in 1979 and was completely unnecessary. This policy was enforced by Mao Zedong, whose idea was originally to increase China's population. Due to China overpopulating, Mao created the idea which is known as the "one child policy". This policy controlled China's population, but also created lots of negative effects and issues such as additional effect on fertility rate, rise of sex ratio at birth, and cause of mental and social issues for children.
CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE 1. Have you ever heard of China's One-Child Policy? If you have, what are your thoughts on it? You probably think its bad, however, it actually benefits China more than anything. China established the One-Child Policy in 1980.
“The one-child policy, critics warned, would forcefully alter kin relations for Chinese families….To enforce a policy that is so extreme and unpopular for families who relied on children for labor and old age support, physical abuses and violence would be inevitable (Doc.B). ” In 1949 China became under Communist control, at this time China was a rather poor country, having the largest population in the world and growing. Their solution to lower fertility rates, the number of live births per 1000 women, was a government program called known as the one-child policy. It would limit Chinese couples, specifically Han Chinese, and ethnicity making up 90 percent of the population, to only one child. The one-child policy was a bad idea for China
CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE 1. China's One-Child Policy -. Is it really beneficial? The One-Child policy was introduced in 1979 when the Chinese government realized their population was increasing at a dangerously rapid speed. They had enforced a policy where each couple was allowed only one child.
In his book, Population Bomb, he argued “through his life that there is an impending doom containing overpopulation and starvation”(Ehrlich 18). Let the facts show that the world has taken the right path toward sustaining life and sending us towards prosperity. In R. Engelman article “Population and Sustainability: Can We Avoid Limiting the Number of People” Engelman’s key argument was that “slowing the rise in human numbers is essential for the planet--but it doesn't require population control”(Engelman 49). Placing a cap on the population will force consequences as
Will a Future With Population Control Make Us or Break Us? In 1979, an announcement was spread throughout China: families were now permitted to have only one child each. At first, the policy did all of the things it should have, but over time, the results became questionable at best. Families that gave birth to an undesirable child abandoned and gave away their children, the population triangle was flipped upside down, and many began to question the power of the government to rob such a basic human right.
China’s massive famine and resource epidemic in the 1960’s, the Chinese government was concerned that the population would continue to cultivate. Because of these concerns couples were encouraged to not have many children and wait if they decided to have children. In 1979 After the population stabilized , “ The One Child Policy”, was placed into law. The law restricted Han Chinese couples to only have one child, and if couples could not abide by the law they would have to face severe punishments. Even with the stabilizing fertility rate in china the One Child Policy was put into place to protect China's people it caused devastation among Chinese families.
Thankfully, there can be a few things done to ease overpopulation. Mainly, the public needs to be made more aware of the overpopulation problem that the world is facing. Beyond that, contraceptives and birth control could be made more available. Finally, the government could create incentives or laws to manage birth rates and populations. If these things happen, the world will surely benefit from a smaller population.
However, limiting the population's growth promises only benefits for the stability of the world's natural equilibrium. The government has two basic methods of limiting the increasing percentage of the population. The first is by
