There is the idea that everyone should be race blind and treat everyone as equals. Race as a cultural category has been used to determinate people for a long time. For example, mortgage brokers will deny to give loans if the person’s name sounds black, even if they don’t know the person. Despite official policies associated with eliminating in racial profiling, they still treat the populous differently under the basis of skin color and racial characteristics, which leads us to the aspect of racial classification. Racial classification “is the attempt to assign humans to discrete categories based on common ancestry” (Kottak 2011: 127). Racial classifications based on phenotype raise the problem of deciding which trait should be considered primary.
