Will raising the minimum wage solve income problems? Many people seem to say that raising the minimum wage will not only solve problems for people who live in poverty, but everyone will be able to receive wages that will leave them in a safe environment. In the recent discussion of raising the minimum wage per hour, a questionable issue has been whether everyone will have a job after the wage has been increased. Many people argue that raising the minimum wage will give everyone a content income that will be enough to support the family. It has been said that raising the minimum wage will boost the economy, but will gradually destroy the chances of future generation getting a job. In “There’s no Shame in Starting at the Bottom” Brian Brenberg mentions “The end result is that it will be harder for students like mine to land that first job and acquire those skills that lead to upward mobility” (2). Brenberg explains how the result in the end will only leave college students without a job, and won’t be able to get an entry-level job. If the minimum wage increases as many people wish to, students like me, will not have a chance of pursuing a job that will kick-start our careers. Although, many people complain about not getting paid enough, but not having a job would be worse. The problem with increasing the minimum wage is that people who have a job will be benefited, but certain people, like college graduate students who are planning to get their first jobs will face consequences, and it will make it more expensive for business to hire younger people and low-skill workers.
