President Truman not have dropped the atomic bomb on Japan, as it is unnessesary, had devistating consiquences, and violated international law. On the one hand, I believe that demonstrating the devastating power of the new weapon could force Japan's surrender and bring the war to an end, saving many American lives. However, I also worry that using the bomb could lead to an arms race and a new era of nuclear proliferation. Firstly, droppping thr atomic bomb was unnecessary since Japan was already about to surrender. The US had already achieved significant military victories by the summer of 1945, such as the capture of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The use of drones violates international law and the principles of just warfare as their use often results in civilian deaths. Another modernday connnection how nucleur weapons still expist. Des[ite internal efforts to prevent proliferation of nucleur weapons, several countires still possess them, incluseign the US, Russia, Chinca, France, Pakistan, and North Korea. The atomic bomb created a constant threat just like how those countires create a constant threat and feear of nucleur war and the devestaing consequences that would
