Only two out of the 110 pounds of fissile material in the nuclear bomb actually blew up on Hiroshima. In the article, “The Hiroshima Bombing: What you need to know about the nuclear attack,” by The Los Angeles Times, it proceeds to state facts about the Hiroshima bombing and about President Obama’s trip to Japan. Obama is the first president to visit Hiroshima since the bombing and has clearly stated that it is not an apology trip. About 140,000 people were killed in the bombing from the initial blast or by radiation poisoning. Not only Japanese were killed, a dozen Americans and 20,000 Koreans were also killed.
The actions authorized by President Truman on August 6, 1945 to drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan would be proven to be unjustified in the years that followed. Actions of this type can divide and break a once unified nation. Deciding if the united States bombing Japan was justified or not would depend on how well you know the topic. Looking deeper into the bombing will reveal the horrendous truth.
August 15 - The news has come in that Japan has officially signed an act of unconditional surrender, bringing the six-year war to an end and bringing the impending Armageddon to a halt. While many thought that Japan would hold out until the bitter end, but with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki radically transformed the playing field. The Japanese could not withstand their stance of defiance, when, on August 6th, the first atomic bomb fell upon Hiroshima. Three days later, another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.
My strongest argument AGAINST using the atomic bomb is that it will kill thousands of innocent people. The bomb that was dropped over Hiroshima instantly killed about 80,000 civilians. Those who survived were seriously injured with burns, and more people would also die from the radiation. This was talked about on page 188, “...instantly killed almost 80,000 civilians. The nuclear blast left many more people maimed or hideously burned, while others fell victim to a new, more gradual killer – radiation poisoning.”
There were around 90,000-146,00 people that died in atomic bombing of Hiroshima and There was even more people that died 39,000–80,000 people in Nagasaki. (http://blog.nuclearsecrecy.com) In August of 1945 President Truman decided to drop two atomic bombs on Japan. There were other options to end WWII rather dropping atomic bombs on Japan. Due to the atomic bombs being dropped, a lot of people died that was innocent along with massive destruction, There was other things they could have done, and it was legal.
In 1939, the world’s most scientific community found out physicists from Germany learned how to split the uranium atom. Albert Einstein and Enrico Fermi fled from the Nazis and Italy are now living in the United States. They both agreed to inform the president of the dangers of atomic production, and Roosevelt agreed to proceed slowly to make an atom bomb. Late 1941, America received the code name the “Manhattan Project” for the designing of the atom bomb. The atom bomb cost $5 Billion to make during the WWII era.
On August 6th, 1945, the U.S. B-29 aircraft the “Enola Gay” dropped the nuclear bomb “Little Boy” on Hiroshima Japan. During WWII, the Japanese attacked one of our bases in Hawaii called Pearl Harbor. They destroyed around 20 U.S. ships, and 300 planes. They killed around 2,400 soldiers, sailors, and civilians. Americans knew the Japanese were planning some kind of attack on the US, but they never expected it to be at Pearl Harbor.
The atomic bomb should be supported by the U.S. because of the following reason. Many people supported the bombing because the Japanese were given a fair warning. The supporters argument states, “Additionally, bomb supporters argue that Japanese civilians were warned in advance through millions of leaflets dropped on Japanese cities by U.S. warplanes. In the months preceding the atomic bombings, some 63 million leaflets were dropped on 35 cities target for destruction by U.S. air forces. The Japanese people generally regarded the information on these leaflets as truthful, but anyone caught in possession of one was subject to arrest by the government.
I think that the Atomic bomb shouldn’t have been invented but I think dropping the Atomic Bomb was necessary to help and show the danger of it. If the atomic bomb was never dropped anything could have happened Russia could have dealt with it, but if that happened Japan would still be working on military weapons, and try to take of the Pacific again or tag team on America. Since America dropped the Atomic bomb the world learned the power and danger of it, and seeing the survivors and the environment showed that the U.S had no idea on what power they were up against. If the U.S didn’t drop the bomb some other country would figure out the power and try to take over the world with it or end up destroying it. The radiation from the two atomic bombs
The 1941 Bombing of Hiroshima has sparked global debate since the time of the event. The devastating bombing caused Japan’s unconditional surrender thus bringing World War 2 to a complete end. The dropping of the bomb was an extremely controversial situation as many citizens had different perspectives and opinions when it came to the decision. Two individuals with majorly insightful perspectives were Harry S. Truman, who was in favour of the bombing and the then President of the United States of America and Leo Szilard, who was opposed to the bombing and a German Physicist that created the atomic bomb. Truman, as the new president of the US, learned of the bomb after it had already been constructed.
When Truman was considering using the atomic bomb to end the war with Japan in the Pacific, he had many things to consider. One of the major considerations was the moral aspect of how many Japanese civilians would die in an invasion versus a bombing. Based on the behavior of both the Japanese Imperial Army and the United States Army, it has been estimated that a land invasion would have ultimately led to 5-10 million Japanese casualties which was significantly higher than the 200,000 that were killed across both the bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Choosing the option that results in fewer casualties is morally superior and by using the atomic bomb, Truman was able to accomplish this. The atomic bomb allowed the Japanese to avoid a long, agonizing end to the war, and despite the deaths that did occur, it was the moral decision for the pain it prevented.
Many people refer to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings as a horrendous historical event, which of course was justified by pictures and stories from these events. People see the amount of destruction and inhumanity in dropping these atomic bombs on innocent cities in Japan, which of course is a horrific milestone to face, or even just hear about. But, many people do not look at it from any other viewpoint than that of cities and people being obliterated, which is not the case. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings were sad events, but from the United States perspective, they were necessary and justified. The United States had lost over 450,000 men in World War II, and could not afford to lose anymore.
The idea of dropping such a devastating weapon on a civilian population is troubling. It seems morally and ethically there must be an alternative. The bombing of civilians is barbaric and cruel, but through the years we have lost sight of our morals and ethic beliefs on the value of human life and the innocence of civilians. The use of an atomic bomb seems like the easy way to end a long and drawn out war, but it is also the coward's way of avoiding further conflict. The mass genocide of civilians goes against everything that we as Americans believe is right.
World War 2 was coming to a close when the decision was made to drop the atomic bomb. The war was over in Europe, and almost over in Japan. There were justifications for the use the nuclear weapon, but they were for the most part either false or outweighed by the negatives. The US should not have dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. The war with Japan was already coming to a close, making the atomic bomb drop pointless.
According to U.S. estimated, 60,000 to 70,000 people were killed by the bomb, 140,000 were injured many more were made homeless as a result of the bomb and some of them were missing. A very dangerous radiation reached over 100,000 kilometers. In the blast, thousands of people died instantly. The city is completely destroyed, there are 90,000 buildings and 60,000 of them were completely destroyed by the explosion. In all, approximately 33% or ⅓ of Hiroshima is completely destroyed.
