On August 6th through 9th, 1945, the United States made a controversial decision that changed the course of history. The Atomic Bombing caused an upshot for America to the Japanese. Four years prior, Japan made a surprise attack on the United States Pacific Naval base, Pearl Harbor, on December 7th, 1941. Although Japan had experienced crucial damage from the atomic bomb, the US decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a morally justifiable act of self defense. It prevented further American casualties to ending World War II, which also allowed Japan to be held accountable for their surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.
On August 6th of 1945, a revolutionary form of destruction was dropped on the city of Hiroshima, Japan. The atomic bomb, nicknamed Little Boy, was the first uranium-fission-based bomb to ever be detonated. At 8:15 AM, America wrought destruction and performed the worst injustice imaginable upon the city, its surroundings, and its people. President at the time, Harry S. Truman, gave consent to the creation and use of such a weapon, and quite frankly, is to blame.

On August 6th, 1945, the U.S. B-29 aircraft the “Enola Gay” dropped the nuclear bomb “Little Boy” on Hiroshima Japan. During WWII, the Japanese attacked one of our bases in Hawaii called Pearl Harbor. They destroyed around 20 U.S. ships, and 300 planes. They killed around 2,400 soldiers, sailors, and civilians. Americans knew the Japanese were planning some kind of attack on the US, but they never expected it to be at Pearl Harbor.

In an article published by The Atlantic Karl L. Compton gives his take on the dropping of two nuclear warheads on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While reflecting he comes to the conclusion that dropping the bombs was indeed the appropriate. I agree fully that this was the right course of action, as the Japanese had proven up to this point that they weren’t willing to back down. An alternative attack wouldn’t have been as potent, and dropping the nukes prevented greater casualty numbers. I think that the Atomic bomb shouldn’t have been invented but I think dropping the Atomic Bomb was necessary to help and show the danger of it. If the atomic bomb was never dropped anything could have happened Russia could have dealt with it, but if that happened Japan would still be working on military weapons, and try to take of the Pacific again or tag team on America. Since America dropped the Atomic bomb the world learned the power and danger of it, and seeing the survivors and the environment showed that the U.S had no idea on what power they were up against. First of all, an Atomic Bomb was made primarily as a defensive weapon to try and avoid and use it more as a threat to stop a war and prevent wars/conflicts. “It was intended to be a deterrent, to make Germany or any other enemy think twice before using such a weapon against the United States.” [1]. On the flip side, an alternate fuel source has been created in nuclear energy (O’Hara).This will aid humans in its hunt to preserve the little oil and fossil fuels it has left.
I think the United States should have not dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because the atomic bombs was too expensive and it was not really worth it, they wiped out two entire cities, and Japan was planning on surrendering. The atomic bomb they used on Nagasaki cost 2 billion
