Roads today can be very unsafe. A major cause of this is thr truckers that are fatigue and still working. Karen Levy goes into explaining how we can help eleviate this issue in her piece, "To Fight Trucker Fatigue, Focus on Economics, Not Electronics". Throughout her article she uses different strategies to persuade the reader on how we can go about eleviating the truckers of being so exhausted. Levy uses different tractics such as pathos, acknowledeges the unsafness of truckers working while fatigue and reasoning for truck drivers being excessively fatigued.
As everything has its background, Texas transportation has it too. According to Calvin Jillson, is not new that the infrastructures in the state aren’t on good conditions. In the middle eighteen, Texas was also struggling with their roads. Cal Jillson points out how the people like the army, travelers, farmers, etc. reacted to the state road condition. They all reported their concern for the lack of well-marked roads.

Because of the fear and size difference, semis should have safer ways around. Semi-trucks should have different roads than other cars. Cost can be an issue in building separate roads for semi-trucks (Forkenbrock, March). Even though cost can be an issue, other issues can be solved. Having a safer environment for the trucks and cars can decrease the amount of casualties and accidents.
At this point, American automobiles were used in people's everyday lives, normally just for transportation. But by the 1950s, American car producers came out with bigger vehicles with more uses. The highway has earned a reputation for danger over the years. Murdered hitchhikers and similar crimes lead to a lack of connection between people or fondness for the open road. Highways were not only an opportunity for growth, they were an opportunity for exploitation.
Idling trucks are an issue for trucking companies for three important reasons. First, when a truck is running, but not moving down the road, the company isn't making any money. Secondly, idling trucks consume fuel, thus adding to the company's expenses. And finally, these non-productive vehicles are responsible for a great deal of carbon emissions. New heavy duty and semi-truck technology help solve these issues and help trucking companies comply with new regulations recently enacted.
A Few Thoughts on Truck Spotting More than a quarter of all large vehicle accidents can be attributed to backing up. Over the last 10 years, hundreds of workers have lost their lives in backover incidents and thousands more have been injured. In the book "Risk Analysis and Security Countermeasure Selection, Second Edition, by Thomas Norman, the author suggests that there are two main ways to minimize risk: Eliminate or mitigate the hazard so the accident cannot occur; or modify the behavior of the person, machine, or thing initiating the triggering event so that the accident will not occur. Limiting the backing of vehicles when personnel and other vehicles are present is an example of mitigating the risk of backovers.
Money can buy a lot of things in present day Earth, even happiness. Money can either be spent two separate ways, poorly or wisely. A wise investment would be to spend money on something that would eventually make money a profit rather than create debt. An example of a wise investment would be the Ford Transit. The Ford Transit is the most efficient vehicle for manual labor today in the vehicle industry for these reasons because of the size of the vehicle, maximum load capacity, and gas mileage of the van.
Another aspect of Porter’s Five Forces model is the threat of substitution, or how easy it would be for another company to take over the present business by innovating in some way. The threat of substitution is low but still present in the trucking industry. Due to the fact that a large majority of freight moved in the United States is moved by truck, it would be difficult to shift to a different mode of transportation. However, there are still other methods of travel that can be used, for example freight can be moved by airplane or by train within the United States. These alternative modes of transportation tend to be more expensive though, meaning it makes more sense for a company to simply purchase the services of a trucking company.
This causes wildlife-train collision, or WTC. At busier times, there are more WTC than roadkill. Trains are relatively slow-moving and are difficult to stop, so some wildlife collisions kill more than one animal. Especially herbivores that travel in groups, for they stop close to railways to graze. The poor design of a railway creates a greater risk for WTC.
So to put the “It’s always the driver’s fault statement to rest”, according to data from truckertotrucker.com “truckers are three times less likely to get into an accident than a regular motor vehicle.” Trucks are on involved in 2.4% of car accidents. Those accidents are caused my dangerous maneuvers by car drivers around trucks that are bigger and heavier therefore giving them less time to react which causes the accident. Before truckers would be put at fault but for the sake of dashcams being on mostly all trucks many people have been caught purposely getting in front of the truck and slamming the brakes just to collect money from trucking companies. She also states that, “A report from the American Trucking Associations says more than 70 percent of goods consumed in the U.S. are moved by truck, but the industry needs to hire almost 900,000 more drivers to meet rising demand.”
The expansion of the railroads enhanced the lives of Americans in many ways, this includes supplying materials across the country. The railroads aloud for items to be moved across the country very fast. Although the expansion of railroads did enhance the lives of Americans, some building the railroads were not so lucky to see its benefits. Building the railroads came with many hazards from the climate to explosions. Not only was the railroad dangerous, it also caused other problems.
