On January 1st of 2018, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un made a speech that sent a gesture of peace toward the world society. Just after that, the Korean Skating Union(KSU), with the strong support of the Korean government, planned to make a unified Korean female hockey team for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games. As soon as they announced this execution to the world, they faced a problem. It turned out that a few members of the original South Korean hockey team couldn’t play. Most of the South Korean citizens this policy was ridiculous, because they had not only been deceived by North Korea bunch of times, but also they thought the efforts made by the players during the four-year training was way important than any political means. However, with the IOC supporting this implementation, the unified hockey team without 3 original members played in the Olympics as a result. This is totally unjustifiable, and there are three reasons for it. To begin with, the united hockey team is against the original goal of the Olympic Games. As North Korean players were newly added to the team, naturally there had to be disadvantages placed on the South Korean players, because the team roster can only contain certain number of players. This resulted in not only weakening the team’s competence, but also wasting the rejected players’ four years of practicing and training. According to the article from Chosun Ilbo, Sarah Murray, the coach of the Korean female hockey team, told the reporter that there was suppression by the government to make them play in the game no matter what.
