“We, the People, recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which only asks what's in it for me, a freedom without a commitment to others, a freedom without love or charity or duty or patriotism, is unworthy of our founding ideals, and those who died in their defense” (Barack Obama). With the newly elected president, the United States is changing in many different ways. A major fact about the United States is that the laws are not being carried out properly. Laws are being broken in many different ways all around the world. The Government is abusing their power and taking advantage of the people. According to Reason “The recriminations are that safety is a greater good than liberty, and Snowden interfered with the ability of the government to keep us safe by exposing its secrets,” (Andrew Napolitano). Napolitano argues that our safety is more important than our liberty. Although the government may seem like they are destroying the world, they are actually trying to protect it. According to Joshua Kennon “First, let me say that, despite all of our flaws, there are certain things that I believe the United States of America does better than other countries; things that are in the very cultural fabric of who we are as a people resulting from ideals that we consider sacred. One of them is free speech. (I’m not even talking about the obvious low-hanging fruit to which we can be compared, such as Russia,” (Kennon). Kennon explains how other people have it worse than Americans. People are selfish and only think about themselves, they never pick their head up and see the world for what it is. They only see the world for the type of situation they live in. What this argument does not take into account is that the government is trying to destroy us. Everything we have fought for as a whole is going to waste. The government’s defense is that they are “making America great again.” They are destroying the only freedom we have left. People fail to see what is happening in front of them because they are not part of the situation others are fighting for. The United States is losing their rights as a whole because they are losing their freedom of speech, their privacy, and control over how they live. The citizens are living like puppets.
