Do you know torture even in 2016 is still practiced by 81 governments as an interrogation technique and also in other ways. When 9/11 happened and the United States detained people to find the person behind those attacks, all of those people had one thing in common they're religion. All of the detainees in Guantanamo bay detention camp were all Muslim. At the time of 13th February 2004 775 detainees were present. 99% of whom were innocent men. Who just like you and I were living a normal life but one day they were captured and next thing you know they're in a interrogation room. In the 1949 United Nations Universal Declaration Of Human Rights it specifically states in article 5 “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.” Which means no one has the right to torture any human being regardless of their religion, sexuality gender or race.Another International law that the United States violates the Geneva convention of 1949 and Protocols I and II added in 1977 which states that you can't torture someone captured in armed conflicts whether it's international or domestic. The Geneva Convention also applies to prisoners. One of the reasons that detainees in Guantanamo Bay are called detainees is because if they're called prisoners the Geneva convention will apply to them. But people still experience torture in Guantanamo bay. An example of it would be force feeding detainees who choose not to eat because they're fighting for their basic rights that the United nations universal declaration of human rights guarantees them but unfortunately the United States has taken those away from them for nothing. The United States acknowledges on their website “Hold governments accountable to their obligations under universal human rights norms and international human rights instruments;” and “Promote greater respect for human rights, including freedom from torture,” But is the United States not using torture because they said ‘freedom from torture,” and are they being accountable for all the lives that have been tortured and are being tortured.
