The Pros And Cons Of Wind Energy

1124 Words5 Pages

As it pertains to wind energy, government has taken the initiative to increase wind turbines. In 2008, the Energy Department put forth a plan that stated that 20% of the U. S’s electricity demand in 2030 would be generated by wind energy ("20% Wind Energy by 2030: Increasing Wind Energy's Contribution to U.S. Electricity Supply"). The Energy Department has determined that to reach this goal they must install 7,000 wind turbines every year; however, in 2006, the U.S only established 2000 windmills ("20% Wind Energy by 2030: Increasing Wind Energy's Contribution to U.S. Electricity Supply"). Hence, there needed to be more government spending and focus on wind energy. The government has taken proactive step to help the environment. However, wind …show more content…

First, deforestation creates space for human expansion. The population of the world is drastically increasing. By 2050, it is expected that there will be “10 billion people,” indicating that the need for space is a necessity if humans are going to keep growing at the rate that they are now ("17 Important Pros and Cons of Deforestation", 2015). The increase of space will not only be used for habitation purposes, but also for commercial establishments, which can improve the economy. Furthermore, trees are used to make valuable material. One of the biggest commodities that trees produce is paper. Moreover, the space created by deforestation can be used for agricultural purposes. These agricultural sites can also help feed many families as well as help those who are unemployed support their family. In addition, deforestation strengthens the economy of individual countries. Especially for developing economies, deforestation is a valuable source of income, and it is difficult to limit the amount one can cut their trees, when they rely on the income to bring food to their …show more content…

In 2009, the government proposed the new Sustainability Procurement Action Plant and the Central Point of Expertise on Timber (CPET) to help the government obtain good timber ("The role of government and companies in deforestation"). However, “since that policy was introduced, the government has repeatedly broken by its own rules and illegal timber has cropped up on several government construction sites,” suggesting that the government’s policies aren’t being properly overseen ("The role of government and companies in deforestation"). The environmental concerns outweigh the economic impacts, and it is necessary that government takes a stance, and ends deforestation. Deforestation is a massive problem and action needs to be taken now before it is too late. Both these wedges are important, and I believe they are good ideas. There are so many benefits to ending deforestation, and we will have to stop in the future anyways, so might as well stop now before the environment really begins to suffer. We will save many habitats, help humans, decrease carbon emission, and maybe discover new medicines. I also think wind energy is a great idea. Although it may hurt some animals as well as be costly, it is a great
