Evil is everywhere in the world, books, life, and moviesJosef Fritzl would fall into that category of monstrous villain behavior. Josef Fritzl is a father who lived in Amstateen, Austria, and had many children. His daughter Elisabeth runs away because Josef starts to sexually harass her and abuse her. When Elisabeth is caught and is forced to return home, Josef becomes insecure, and eventually starts building a cellar that has a secret room. Josef then locks his daughter in his cellar where he rapes her. This then results in the birth of 7 children. Josef holds his daughter in the cellar for 24 years, until he is caught, convicted, and sent to jail. In a recount of the experience Hubert Schrankmaier describes his reaction when hearing the story of Josef Fritzl saying, “It came as a profound shock to Hubert Schrankmaier when… his favorite classical music program was interrupted by the news that a man from Amstetten, Lower Austria, had been arrested for having fathered seven children with his daughter he kept in a cellar for twenty-four years'' (Marsh & Pancevski 167). This proves that Josef was deceiving to not only the public, but his friends and family, who knew nothing of his other family. According to Merryl Gee child sex offenders “establish” themselves as a good person that people would think are “too nice” or “too respected” to hurt anyone (Gee). This shows that Josef Fritzl was trying to deceive society into thinking he was a nice guy.. In The Odyssey the goddess Circe coerces Odysseus into sleeping with her, and promises him help if he does (Homer). This is similar to Josef Fritzl because at first Odysseus did not want to because he was married, but then Circe insisted, making her actions malicious and …show more content…
Elisabeth tells authorities that one of her children died, and Fritzl covers his tracks by taking his dead son Michael's body, then he “turned up the boiler and put Michael’s corpse inside” (Marsh & Panceviski 201). In doing this Fritzl took his son and burned his body without any regret. Josef Frizl was cruel to his dead son and to Elisabeth. According to Mark Steinbrig Children can die due to child abuse and neglect: “Child abuse can result in both short- and long-term injury or even death. Some children may be unaware that they are victims of child abuse” (Steinbrig). This shows that Josef Fritzl was abusing his child by neglecting him, and this resulted in the child's death. This is cruel, and unfatherly behavior that is similar to the Goddess Circe’s Behavior in The Odyssey because she put a spell on Odysseus’s men and turned them into pigs and locked them in a pigs pen (Homer). This is also cruel behavior because Circe turned human beings into animals, and then Circe traps them in a
