Throughout life there are going to be an abundance of physiological changes, rather modifiable or non-modifiable. In my pursuit to better society and alleviate the burden of these problems, I aspire to be a physical therapist (PT). Often people ask, how can I take care of myself? What must I do to keep my physiological integrity intact throughout my lifespan?

Physical Therapy was introduced to the US following WWI to rehabilitate soldiers returning from the war. PT combines application of some form of cold, heat, or electricity to the body to assist in pain management with therapeutic exercise to rehabilitate the spine and other parts of the body. These modalities are not the sole treatment, but supplement therapeutic exercise. The purpose of physical therapy is to help the patient return to active life as quickly as possible. Therapy strives to reduce pain, increase flexibility, range of motion, and function, build strength, and correct posture. Patient education is an important component in physical therapy. Patients learn about how their spine works, proper body mechanics, common disorders and their causes, benefits of good posture, importance of physical fitness. What kind of people do they treat? A physical therapist helps take care of patients in all phases of healing, from initial diagnosis through the restorative and preventive stages of recovery. In this position, responsibilities and dependences of a Director in a clinical setting such as OrthoCarolina are a little different, the things that the Director is responsible for is more beneficial to the company that they may work for. They handle things such as communicating, enforcing values, policies, and procedures are followed by Pt’s & OT’s; fulfilling recruitment, orientation, mentoring, apprising, planning; reviewing job assistance, planning and reviewing reimbursement tactics and even assisting customers. The director has to has to provide these services as well: Diagnostic Imaging Services, Physical Therapy, Occupational therapy, Psychological Services, & Sport Medicine Services. Communication plays a huge role into their job, as they must communicate with other directors to create department goal ensure that they are met. Also connecting with physicians and nurses to provide an innovative treatment plans that must be developed. As far as training goes they must implement quality and assurance programs, as well as evaluating the result of the procedure then altering it to increase effectiveness.
