In the story The Ransom of Red Chief it starts out with two grown men named Sam and Bill Driscoll try kidnapping a rich man’s son, whose name is Johnny Ebenezer. The two men rode by Johnny’s house and offer him candy and that is when Johnny throws a brick and it hits Bill in the eye. After getting hit in the eye they kidnap Johnny. They take Johnny to a cave and feed him then they play Indian. Johnny plays as an Indian chief, called Red Chief Bill becomes Old Hank, and Sam is named snake eye. Red Chief declared that in the night Old Hank will be scalped. After playing Indian for a good while they all went a sleep, when Sam was almost a sleep he heard Bill scream and saw Red chief try to scalp Bill. Bill was as scared as a cat in a dog pound. After getting on to Red Chief the two men talked about the ransom letter that they were going to send to Red Chief’s father. In the letter it said that

Then they went to sleep and Sam woke up to Bill screaming from Red Chief trying to savagely scalp Bill like in the story. Then the two men talked about the ransom letter and it consisted the same thing as in the story. Now Sam went to town to see if there was any talk about a kidnapping instead of a post office. After looking over town Sam gave delivered the ransom letter very sneakily and waited a long time for it to be returned. When the letter was returned it said the same thing in the story. So the two men went to the big mansion where Red Chief lived and payed 250 dollars to the rich man and took off especially Bill he ran faster than a squirrel on steroids.
