Criminal justice organizations come in various shapes and sizes which all need effective decision makers in their administration. Organizations are complex and interesting structures consisting of various components related to each other. The criminal justice system operates like most types of organizations when dealing with financial resources. There are budgets, limited amount of resources, and an overburdened workload in certain areas. “Perspectives on criminal justice organizations are particularly unique, compared with other public sector organizations that carry the authority of government, because criminal justice agencies and their members may apply legitimate coercive force to control citizens” (Stojkovic, Kalinich, & Klofas, 2015, p. 8). The organizations that make up the criminal justice system are necessary to keep society safe and to maintain order in the country.

This leads to conflicts between internal and external sources which are focused on achieving their own organizational goals. The role of management in criminal justice organizations is to maximize efficiency while working on organizational designs. “Unionization has dramatically changed the role of management and has influenced everything from job and shift assignments to occupational safety” (Stojkovic, et al., 2015, p. 16).
