In “The Crucible”, written by Arthur Miller, a series of trials occur in the small village of Salem, Massachusetts. These trials were based on the real life events that occurred in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The events pertain of accusations of witchcraft amongst the community. However, the fictional interpretation by Miller brings drama and creativity to the story. Such drama lets the reader explore the character's personality and motives, and how their personal encounters partook in the hysteria of what is known as, “The Salem Witch Trials”. In Miller’s play, the audience is introduced to characters, Abigail Williams, John Proctor, and Elizabeth Proctor. It later mentioned in Act I that Abigail Williams, 17, had an affair with John Proctor.
