Guerrillas in Colombia have become a horrible violent issue. The ambition of power the guerrillas have, became a nightmare of sad episodes to a lot of innocent people. Unfortunately a lot of people have been affected by the guerrillas but only a few stories such as the ones written by Alfredo Molano in his book The Dispossessed have come out to public. These are true stories narrating how guerrillas force poor people to leave their homes for them to keep the land. The dispossessed’s separation from their homes is alienating because they were forced to live in a foreign urban environment that totally affected their inner peace rather than living in the peacefulness of the countryside. Guerrillas came to his village shooting everyone and he was the only person from his family who could escape. With no family and without a formal education, he went to Mandela barrio where all families fled to. Toñito described his tough daily life: “We ate whatever we could find during the day, and at night, we slept on the street outside some of the fancy stores by the automatic bank machines or under cars”(Molano 110). The quote shows that city life for Toñito is totally hard. He wasn't used to sleeping in stores or under cars. He was instead used to live in his village with his family and friends in a more peaceful environment and by peaceful I mean, a place where violence could never reach him nor harm him. Toñito is totally vulnerable living in the streets: “We were always running from the police, and, when the guards and watchmen got their hands on us, they'd kick us around”(Molano 110). The quote clearly shows a change in Toñito. He used to be a normal kid that had friends and people that loved him, but he turned out to be a delinquent.
