The Nimrod Expedition, was the first of the three expeditions to the Antarctic, which was led by Ernest Shackleton in 1907–09. Its main target was to be the first to the South Pole, which unfortunately, was not attained, but the expedition 's southern march reached a Farthest South latitude of 88 degrees, just 180.6 km from the pole.
