The purpose of my comparative public policy project plan is to thoroughly compare and contrasts the similarities and difference between Ireland and Massachusetts’ Public Transportations Systems. In this work, I will incorporate a focus on the association public policy plays within the transportation systems of both Ireland and Massachusetts. When selecting my comparative topic, I wanted to assure that the subject was of interest and offered resources to support my research. I have decided to conduct my comparative study on public transportation for a few reasons. The most significant motive for my topic selection revolves around the fact that I work for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Retirement Fund (MBTARF or “the fund”), which serves as a private retirement trust for Massachusetts’ public transportation system (MBTA or T). The main public transportation agency in Massachusetts is the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Retirement Fund (MBTA or T), which was originally established in 1897, and has greatly developed since. In a somewhat similar timeframe, Ireland’s first public transportation system was the Dublin to Kingstown railway, which was created in 1834, and later industrialized in 1920. Today, Ireland’s public transportation system is known as Transport For Ireland (TFI). Both Ireland and Massachusetts transportations systems primarily reside within their major cities Boston and Dublin. The public transit systems both offer train, bus and automobile transportation with a few differences, such offering public trams or ferries.
