Odysseus Hero Status Imagine being away from loved ones for years on end and dealing with friends who aren’t the brightest, all while trying to find a way back home. Odysseus of Ithaca went through all of these problems in the play titled “The Odyssey”, by Homer. In this play, Odysseus wants to return home to his family, but he faces many obstacles that slow him down along the way, so he comes up with ways to overcome these struggles then eventually returns home. Odysseus is a hero because he completed the goal that was set, no matter how long it took him.
