Everyone wants something in life. All Rosaura wants is to go to a party! In the story The Stolen Party, Liliana Heker, the author, focuses on many different craft moves. Those include repetition, full circle, and conclusion. She uses these to show how the monkey and Rosaura compare. Repetition is one of the main crafts used in this story. Heker uses it throughout The Stolen Party. In the beginning of The Stolen Party, the monkey was mentioned in the first sentence. Later on, the second to last page mentions the monkey while the magician is performing. Rosaura's mom had tried to explain that she isn't there for the party. But Rosaura insisted that that isn't why she was going. When she arrived, everyone was treating her like she is really was. But at the end, Rosaura was handed two large bills and she was very shocked. Not Rosaura or the readers were expecting such a surprise. The surprise ending is certainly a craft used in this story, but is not as important as repetition, full circle, and conclusion. Sometimes it takes the hard way to learn. Full circle and conclusion do a good job of showing it. These two crafts somewhat relate to one another. They both appear at the end of the story. Near the end, the conclusion, Rosaura's mother's thoughts of her being at the party only for serving and being the maid, looped back around. Once the money was handed to her, she realized that her mother was right. These two crafts also help show how the monkey and Rosaura relate. In conclusion, repetition, full circle, and conclusion are used to compare Rosaura and the monkey. Repetition is used throughout the story with the monkey. Surprise helps show that Rosaura really wasn't there for the party. Full circle and conclusion tie together to explain Rosaura's mom was right about the party.
