Hae Had a Secret
Adnan Syed was convicted of strangling and killing his ex-girlfriend in 1999. There were not enough tests done on the site of burial to prove that Adnan did it. The only thing that convinced Adnan’s jury was Adnan’s friend Jay, who seemed to know everything. Jay was the proving factor of Adnan’s entire case although his story changed every time he was questioned. Adnan should not have been sentenced to life because of the lack of tests done and the fact that Jay and Jenn killed Hae and tried to frame Adnan for it. How can someone be convicted of a crime when there were little to no tests done? There was a liquor bottle and a piece of rope near the site of the Hae’s body and none of it was tested. But, maybe someone else committed the crime and thought it would be perfect to frame it on Adnan. Jay and Adnan were never very close friends. They would just smoke weed together and Adnan would buy it from Jay. Jay had a girlfriend, Stephanie, who was Hae’s best friend. Hae found out that Jay was cheating of Stephanie with Jenn. Jenn and Jay did not want Stephanie to find out so after school on January 13, 1999, they went to talk to Hae. This talk was about bribing and convincing Hae not to say anything. Things got out of hand and one of the two ended up choking Hae and killing her. Since this wasn’t planned, they made up their story perfectly to frame Adnan. He’s the ex-boyfriend it would make sense to frame it on him. Many of Adnan’s friends say they definitely did not think that Adnan was the type to kill Hae. When they broke up, their friends said that Adnan was chill after the break-up and did not show any signs of him wanting to kill her because he was so upset. Adnan was sentenced to prison for life for something he did not do. Wouldn’t one think that he would be livid for having to spend the rest of his life rotting in a jail cell? Unless he did do it and thinks his punishment is fair. It is hard to judge. When Sarah Koenig tells Adnan he is such a nice guy and does not seem like to type of person to kill someone, Adnan explodes a little toward her. “I just, yeah, oh, I mean, you don’t even really know me though uh Koenig. I’m, you don’t. I- I- maybe you do. Maybe, I don’t- we only talk on the phone, I don’t understand what you mean. I’m not- I mean, it’s-it’s-it’s just weird to hear you say that, because, I don’t even really know you--” (Koenig Episode 6). Funny how he does not like being called a nice guy because it is like he is guilty of something. He also does not remember anything from the day of January 13, 1999. Is he purposely not remembering anything or did nothing really significant happen that day for him trigger his memory? But, his ex-girlfriend was killed that day. That day should stick out like a sore thumb in his head. Where he was when he got the phone call, what he did after school, and who he hung out with. That day should not be that hazy in his
