The very first people to ever really set foot on the land that we now know as the United States were indigenous people. Then around the end of the 15th century is when european settlers began to immigrate to the US. That is when the saying “ The streets are paved in gold,” became popular to describe the many opportunities for people who wanted to live in the United States. It was a way for immigrants then and now to have a fresh start in a country they believe to hold many opportunities for them. People don’t leave their home without a good reason. Whether if it was in the past to now to later in the future there is one thing that is very common amongst why people move to another country and that is because they wanted to live a better life, to start fresh. An example would be the pilgrims who left their country because they didn’t want to deal with religious persecution because they believed in something their original country disagreed with. Than there was the irish who left their home because of a terrible famine that was happening in Ireland and the only way for them to survive they had to leave their country and immigrate to the US. Now the most recent example of immigration is people from third world countries such as countries within South America, Syria, and etc. who are in danger of their lives due to lack of help, threats being made against them, and or war occurring in their country. One of the many reasons they do this is because they want to protect their family. They believe that leaving their home is the best choice in making sure not only are they safe but also their kids because they don’t want them to have to go through fearing for their lives. In a lot of people's cases - an example would be Syrians who are fleeing their country - it is because they want to seek refuge because their home country is in a horrible state and if they continue to stay there than them and their family and friends are more likely to be in danger and
