Ariel and Caliban are both the same and different in many ways. Their roles in the play “The Tempest”give off a big influence for the audience. They are both slaves of Prospero, but are treated very differently. When it comesto having Prospero’srespect Ariel wins with their relationship. They as well have their own personalities to differ as well. As alike wise, they both demand the wish to be set free by Prospero. Firstly to compare, both Caliban and Ariel are slaves of Prospero. Ariel is a more kinder gentler Spirit who respects Prospero, so then in return Prospero treats him as well with respect and gives him things that he wants such as his freedom. On the other hand, Caliban issomeone who does not have prosperous trust because he tried to rape Miranda. So naturally in return as well Prospero does not have a very good relationship with him and instead punishes him more than rewards him. They may have the same master but the relationships of master and servant are very differentfor both of them. To continue, Caliban and Ariel both wants to be set free but at the end of the play only one is actually set free. I believe that that has to do with their personalities and how their actions decided their future. Caliban had plan to kill Prospero so naturally of course he wouldn't be set free. But Ariel worked with Prospero and did his bidding so he wasset free. Also ariel is a kind spirit so he wouldn't do anything bad if he would be set free in the world, while Caliban I believe would be very bad to the world I wouldn't think he would be safe with other
