The Temptations
Introduction:
I. Have you ever heard the song “My Girl” or “Get Ready”? If so, do you know the artist?
II. Well, let me introduce you to the Motown vocal group that sang those songs, The Temptations.
III. In my research on the Temptations, I have found that they are one of the most influential rhythm & blues and soul music vocal groups of the 1960s.
IV. Today, I will examine how the Temptations vocal group began, the successes of this influential vocal group, and the personal issues that eventually lead to the separation and end of the “original” Temptations.
Transition: First, I will discuss how the Temptations vocal group formed.

Towards the end of the 1960’s, many of The Temptations’ songs had a political theme. vi. “Cloud Nine” was about a drug allegory and “Ball of Confusion” described the world at their time.
D. In the history of soul music, no group could compare to The Temptations.
i. As found on The Temptations webpage from the Motown Museum website copyright date updated 2017, they could dance with “elegant precision,” sing with great harmony, and wore the “sharpest wardrobe” in the music business. ii. Unlike many of the other vocal groups, each member of The Temptations was able to take the lead on any of their songs.
