In a world filled with war, where the right to lead is granted only to those who can survive the testing. Cia must uncover the truth about what the government is trying to do. In the dystopian book The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau, Cia finds out that she gets picked to go fight in The Testing to try and get into the university. They start going through the tests. But when they get to the fourth test, they have to try and survive those days it takes to get back to Tosu City. There are a lot of deaths. But soon enough there are wars between people and those just trying to survive all the way back to Tosu City. Cia and Thomas start to get closer, the longer they are together. The author uses The Testing to develop the theme of courage and trust showing, one must trust and trust other people to survive the testing. For example, Cia shows it by having to shoot. The gun in my hand kicks back the second before, will fire. My bullet punches into his side (280). In helping her overcome having to shoot the guy she trusted, Cia had to overcome her fear of having to shoot someone that she cared for and thought Will was a good person, but she can't always trust people in The Testing because it is about surviving rather than making friends. Cia thought Will was a good person, but he was just using them for supplies and wanting to kill them so that he could get into the university. People can hide how they actually get things from you. Being able to trust people in The Testing, you can only trust the people you go into it with because everyone else is trying to kill the competition, so that they can get into the university. People can change how they are to fit in and to get along with people but they can be the bad person.They always need to trust at least one person to help achieve their goal and get to where they want to be like Cia and
