Have you ever had to tell someone something and fear that they will hate you for it? That is how people in the LGBT+ community, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, and more, feel almost every time they come out. The LGBT+ community is a community of people whose sexuality or gender is different than being heterosexual or cisgender, being born being born the gender that you feel you are. There are many death threats and hate crime against people in the LGBT+ community, and a lot of people in the community are afraid to come out for fear of being rejected or being hurt. People in the LGBT+ community have overcome the hardships thrust upon them, and fought to be who they really are. Discrimination against homosexuality and gender identity is a major problem, death, depression, and bullying rates are very high in the LGBT+ community, and the amount of homelessness in the LGBT+ community. …show more content…

On June 26, 2015, in all 50 of the states, gay marriage was legalized. According to “A Brief History of Marriage,” by Sheri Stritof, men and women have been marrying since 1250 CE without having to fight for the right to marry. In some countries and in some states, it has been legalized to change your name and gender on important paperwork like your passport, your ID, and your birth certificate. In the world, 120 countries have decriminalized homosexuality. In 72 countries, homosexuality is criminalized and people are imprisoned for it, and in 14 countries, homosexuality is punishable by death. As a result, thousands of people per year have been arrested and punished for expressing that they were homosexual. This leads me to my next point, death, depression, and bullying rates in people in the LGBT+
