The Truth Behind the King’s Murder

When I think of evil I think of someone cynical, deceptive, and nefarious. Lady Macbeth possesses all of those traits. Macbeth may have been a greedy, power hungry man, but he would never have done anything if he did not have The Devil in his ear. Every step of the way, she encouraged the awful behavior. She was the person who came up with all of the plans. She said and did whatever she needed to do for him to do what she wanted. Lady Macbeth came up with the plan to kill the King and blame the guards. Everything else was also her idea. She truly only cared about the crown. It was the only thing that would make her happy. She was extremely deceitful to all the people who comforted them after the King’s passing. She was basically the one who killed him, yet she acted as if she felt greif. She tells him he has to be ruthless in order to achieve the things he wants. Lady Macbeth basically tells him to be moral is to be soft. To be honest is to be weak. She says, “You are too soft-hearted to take shortcuts. You wish to be great. You have ambition, but you lack the ruthlessness that should go with it. (1.4 51)” She’s telling him he has to completely change everyone he thought he was to be the King. As if it were a bad thing to be caring and loving and waiting for his right to the throne. She was greedy and wanted that power now. Lady Macbeth then tells Macbeth, “To deceive the rest of the world, look natural. Keep welcome in your eye, your hand, and your tongue. Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under it. (1.4 53)” She is giving him advice on how to be deceitful. She should be comforting him and being excited that he may have a chance to be king, but she’s instead filling his head with all these vile ideas to get what she wants
