After World War Two the U.S. and Soviet Union had a long-lasting rivalry since the Soviets were communists and the U.S. was not. This period is known as the Cold War because it was a major conflict where the U.S. and Soviet Union fought indirectly. The Cold War impacted the U.S. domestic policy and American society because it created American fear of communism. This fear later led to losing rights and the government switching where their money was being spent in certain areas such as general education.

Krugman suggests building a stronger safety net so the gap between the poor and rich can be limited to by raising of the taxes. Krugman uses this claim to highlight the fact that the middle class needs to be stronger and the only way to achieve that is to have a strong safety net. Krugman says the rich use loopholes in the tax system to cheat their way out of high taxes, and the poor pay a relatively high tax compared to what they should be paying.

The United States enforces oppressive restrictions that prevent their people to be free in society. This is imposed during the Cold War when the United States mandates decisions based on their own preferred way of life and political views. The country’s condition during the Civil Rights era portrays inequality in statuses, rights, and opportunities for people. In addition, the United States acts on performing unjust behavior and treatment toward their civilians.
The political reason was that the U.S would stop the spread of communism, this was known as The Truman Doctrine. Economic reason was the Marshall Plan this included capitalism, and private property. The Cultural reason is freedom vs no freedom. The soviets gave no freedom and told you whom you were going to be. The U.S had freedom, and they let you have the choice of what you were going to be.

The rise of Soviet-American tension came after the period of two disastrous wars. However, the Cold War was unlike any war of the past, although there was high military and political tension, it is referred to by some as a significantly stable time history.
There are three competing theories of the causes of the Cold War; the traditional theory, the liberal theory, and the ideological theory. In all three theories lie causes that could have equally contributed to the conflict, but only one is more convincing than the others. The traditional theory says that communists were at fault for the conflict. Communists, specifically Stalin, wanted more control and thus used his political ideology as a means to achieve his desires. Expansionism is a commonly mentioned aspect related the idea of the traditional theory.
