An overall engaging story; doesn’t rely on too many actions. The story goes because of Joanna’s internal conflict. Her thoughts drive the story along with the descriptive language. This language pulled me in. So much attention went into the details to show how numb her mind and body is at this point, especially when she has arrived at her house and the story reflects on how “the New Jersey highway system [left] her body a limp bundle of cord and nerves” (1). I understand this to stand for how on edge the highway system made her; it relates back to this numb feeling she has. In the story, this static feeling is conveyed through the story as well and I sense it goes to how lifeless she feels. It’s so strong that the story details insignificant
