The year 2000 was not only a huge year for these artists, it was a amazing year for the country as a whole. This year presented us with much more than just music. The fashion, media, and the development of the states greatly impacted the year 2000.

The designers embarked a new style and started to go for a more younger and contemporary look. Programming started to increase in popularity in the year 2000. In 1999, protests were started over the fact that many programs and shows were too similar and there was no diversity.. In 2000, television networks finally decided to change that. In an article titled, “Media and Publishing” the author Peter Curwen explains, “they especially sought to increase diversity in their executive ranks in the belief that this would lead to more diversity in their programming” (“Media and Publishing” 2). This is imperative because it shows that more people are aware of diversity problems and are deciding to take a stand and make a change. Not only did programming become extremely popular, but so did television shows, specifically reality television. The show survivor is a reality show about a group of people who are stranded and must find a way to survive. This started to affect the Olympics, so in 2000, rules were finally made. Ehringer writes in an article, “that conference resulted in the creation of the World Anti- Doping Agency, which was charged with implementing more stringent drug testing of international athletes” (“Sports and Games” 4). This is extremely important because it shows that the country cares about the physical and mental effects of these drugs and how they are not safe for our athletes to be taking. Other than the drugs taken from athletes, there were more health laws put into action in 2000. More states decided to cover more, including mental illness, contraceptives, and diabetes. In an article written about the development in the states, Beckwith reports, “this brought to 31 states mandating equal treatment for mental and physical problems. Iowa, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Delaware joined 10 states ordering health plans to cover contraceptives. Massachusetts, Alaska, and Hawaii joined 38 states mandating coverage for diabetes”(“Development in the States, 2000” 2). This is vital for the year 2000 but also for our country today.
