This impact was started by anguished youths who were reacting to the Cold War and the economic downfall of the United States. During this period, punk rock affected America by creating a vulgar and offensive way for youth to express themselves. Punk Rock was at its peak in the middle to late 70s, and it began partly as a reaction towards their surroundings. It is a subculture that can be characterised as being resistant and artistic.
