This year marks the 21st anniversary of Kurt Cobains Death. His life and death impacted many people in both positive and negative ways, although he is gone his music will last a forever. Cobain is known as a front man of the band that is known for opening the doors to grunge music, Nirvana. Cobain was a gifted musician who inspired his fans, as well as, other musicians. His life and death were a tragedy and serves as an example for teens and young adults. On February 20th 1967 Kurt Donald Cobain was born to Wendy and Don Cobain in Hoquiam, Washington. They recorded a few songs together at his Aunt Mary’s house. Cobain found peace in his artistic ventures. He wrote many songs and also drew pictures. The band eventually changed the band members and the name was changed to Nirvana in the 1980’s. Cobain developed a heroin habit that would only get worse as the years went on. Nirvana would become the most famous grunge band known worldwide. Before Nirvana grunge was barely know outside the Pacific Northwest. (McDougall 68). Nirvana was named third best music video ever by MTV. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was a anthem to the 1990’s youth. Cobain was featured on magazine covers with and without the band and every misunderstood teen or young adult idolized him. Cobain’s personal challenges with drugs and depression did not fade with fame. The challenges of being a rock star actually worsened his drug use and depression. He met and married Country Love, a fellow musician. Together they abused drugs; until she became pregnant. They both stopped abusing drugs, but temptation to use was overwhelming for Kurt, so he would sneak out, so she wouldn’t feel tempted.
