Before reading A Slave to the Yellow Peril, my knowledge about immigration surfaced. Learning about Racism in the United States has been taught and focused on for the past decades. As a student, my favorite history class was American Government because at this time the election was occurring. My teacher held discussions about race, ethnicity, and the importance of how important it is to treat others with respect. In some ways, kids in my class felt uncomfortable to state their opinions about racial discrimination. My teacher took a different approach while discussing racism without going against anyone's opinions, while focusing on the importance of racism. Something that stood out to me in the article was seeing how bad racism affected people like the Laundrymen in Wichita and how hard it was to escape. “The laundrymen in Wichita were likely trying to escape omnipresent racism in other areas of the country where Asian population densities were much higher, making the chinese immigrants more of a “problem” than in Kansas (Courtwright 4).” As the Laundrymen in Wichita tried to find somewhere else to stay, racism occurred throughout the United states. Racism brought boycotts against the chinese and brought riots between individual groups and caused many of people their own lives. In the article, individual groups like the White Americans chose to look at the Chinese differently and think that they were a threat to other groups causing riots and people to look at them differently. An occurring theory in the article showed that “East Asian people were a threat to the Western World.” Racial discrimination is a big deal and occurred throughout the nineteenth century dividing groups apart instead of bringing them …show more content…

The beliefs about allowing immigration in the Unites States are not present. The president's beliefs about the foreign policy and allowing immigrants to have the same opportunities which include jobs, and education are not equal. Chinese immigrants were looked upon by White Americans, as American Indians separated themselves from African Americans.
