In “Death of a Salesman” Arthur Miller explores the thematic issue of success. As it is seen in the play, Willy Loman had big dreams and aspirations. Success, according to the dictionary, means “The prosperous achievement of something attempted; the attainment of an object according to one 's desire: now often with particular reference to the attainment of wealth or position. Is when a goal or purpose is accomplished. That which happens in the sequel; the termination (favourable or otherwise) of affairs; the issue, upshot, result”(Oxford English Dictionary). There is the wrong idea that success is only measured by wealth, by what you have and you don’t. Success is not measured by how much money you have in the bank, how may properties do you posses or popularity. Success is truly about being happy and accomplishing our goals. It is about being proud about the accomplishments we have had in life and recognizing ourselves. The play ”Death of a Salesman” explores the theme of success through Willy Loman. He was a salesman who traveled for business. His wife is Linda and his grown sons Happy and Biff have to deal with his and the problems he is facing in this moment. He was a student when the Great Depression time period and he grew in this atmosphere of since in the novel he cover the themes involved with human values and social and political problems. After the World War II the nation started to se prosperity. This is where the idea of success and the American Dream come to play. An effect of many of the problems as mass culture and big government was what caused the Americans to have instead of the “traditional ideal of individualism” they started to focus on fitting with people and being well liked just as we can see though Willy’s
