Theme Of Violence In Tobias Wolff

309 Words2 Pages
In addition to males yearning for a sense of empowerment, Wolff informs that even though a majority of male characters are ruthless and show sadism through violence, there are others that are supportive and discourage that behaviour of viciousness. Wolff depicts this through his characters of Mr. Howard and Geoffrey. Mr. Howard like Rosemary, opposes violence and has an overly constructive outlook of others discerning Jack as a well collected individual giving him a “good report” at last giving Jack access to Hill. Signifying Mr. Howard’s steady heart and his veto against violence. Additionally, Wolff asserts Geoffrey’s loving and caring nature. Geoffrey unlike Wolff’s other characters appears to be the only one with a sense of responsibility
