Many have said that God works in mysterious ways. I personally think that he certainly does. After reading these stories, I was left astonished and curious. Astonished, because of how he moves and works through our lives, and curious on why he does move through our lives. I know he’s in our lives because he loves us, but is his love limited? Once this love has reached it’s limit, does suffering come into play? These are questions I came upon while reading the book. Besides the questions I came upon, I found the problem of evil. I learned about theodicy and the problem of evil within the book. I learned that when God is in the face of evil, God always comes out on top. That everything that God had created was for a good purpose as he had intended it to be. For example, imagine a homeless man looking for food to feed a family of four. He then sees a man with a box walking walking down the street. The box is full of food, and knowing this, one can of food falls out. The homeless man knowing that he hasn’t came upon any luck to finding food for his family takes it dishonorably. Is what he did evil? He did it for a good cause. Whether it was the best thing to do is debatable. This is a similar example of how I thought the world was structured. The question asked if the theodicies presented in the book were compelling or comforting. I think they were definitely comforting, for the reason being that I am now informed that evil and suffering do exist. Knowing that I am informed of these existents makes me comfortable because I now know how to deal with any evil or suffering, compared to before I read the book. Before I read it I was less informed about evil and suffering which gave me a uncomfortable feeling. Now I understand it better and am able to deal with it
