Theodore Seuss Geisel
Theodore Seuss Geisel is an American author. He uses his witty rhymes, fantastical characters, and vivid landscape to connect with children to encourage them to read more. Even though majority of his books are full of fiction and elementary level words, he still seems to write a deeper meaning about politics, life, and plenty of other controversial topics that goes on in the world. Dr. Seuss books are his attempt to connect the reading world to the children who enjoy rhyming and reading entertaining books. Him and his new wife Audrey went to Kenya for a trip but little did he know the whole story of The Lorax (1971) would come about. The Lorax was about greed and pollution. Dr. Seuss started speaking on politics about the war between the Soviets and the United States. His book The Butter Battle Book (1984) about the war which was his so-called way of writing an “adult book for children, or a children’s book for adults” as Julie Von Burgen says in her biography. That same book made the New York Times Best Seller list and he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for it. After he wrote You’re Only Old Once: A Book for Obsolete Children (1986), which sold one million copies in only one year, he wrote Oh, The Places You’ll Go! (1990). He went all over the country on a traveling art tour that inspired him to write Oh, The Places You’ll Go! and it ended up being his last book he will write. One year after that, Dr. Seuss passed away in September 24, 1991 while he was inside his studio in California. Several books like The Cat in the Hat, The Lorax, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and many more are made into movies for kids, adults, and families to enjoy today.
