Introduction
I was daydreaming in the class and the teacher calls on me and asking me a question. Suddenly I do not know the answer and I’m desperately started to looking around for help, a friend of mine whispered it to me and I said the answer. Suddenly the moment of terror has passed, I go back to daydreaming, the teacher continue what he supposed to do and everyone is happy and actually there are lot of things happened that day that raises so many questions. According to Goffman’s theory of dramaturgy. The back stage is the place where the actors did not play any roles. The back stage is more personal, where the actors are not being judged and not need to portray any certain images. For example a student in a classroom, as actors, he sit and pay attention, listen and ask questions about the subject. This is the front stage. However, when he is no longer within the classroom environment, he can go home, relax, turn on the television and think no more about the subject he had learnt and just be whoever he is; this is known as the back stage. But, the fact is there are very few people who know the back stage of the actor and those people are those who are very close to him or his relatives and his family. Whenever people conversation, yelling, fighting or plays sport that is the social interactions. For example on the classroom where the teacher is teaching and the student is listening with open ears, raising questions regarding to the subject. That is the social interactions between the teacher and the students. From the example above, I can say that the teacher and the students both of them are actors and the audience at the same time. Why? Because from the perspective of the teacher he thinks that he is the actor and the audience is the students, on the classroom he is trying his best to impress the students with his lessons and material. While the students think that way also. Where the students as the actor, sit quietly in class, listening with open ears and raising questions. The students trying their best to impress the teacher. This is enough to explain to us that, on one stage there are more than one actor. That kind of relations and interactions between the actor and the audience, it’s because the expectations of that social settings. But, when the students accidently meet the teacher on the mall or other places except in the school or learning environment. Both of them will behave differently or awkwardly because the expectations of the social settings has changed. This does not tell us more about how this relationship worked or even how people act and play roles the way they do. But, it does
