Thomas Hobbes once stated: “No arts; no letter; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear and danger of violent death; and the life of a man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.” Greed, cruelness, and self-interest dominant our way of living. Greed, cruelness, and self-interest prove that we are born bad because without laws we would destroy people and their belongings, we live in constant fear, and we are all selfish. Without laws we would injure, manipulate, vandalize, and destroy other people and their belongings. We would not worry about going to jail or prison so, in turn, we would do what we want and have no consequences for our actions. We fear the fact that anyone at anytime could be carrying a gun and could potentially pull it out at any time and take someone’s life with it. Have you ever been walking to your car at night and felt the need to turn around and check behind you in fear of what could be there? We do not know whether or not we are walking past a murder or just your average person. People use to believe cities were built for shelter but many now believe that overcrowded cities are a great place for muggers. We tend to try and stay away from poor neighborhoods with few streetlights and few policemen on patrol. People commit homicide, rape, and robbery and we wonder why we are afraid of other human beings. The same kind hurting their kind. In America when someone says something we believe is to be true but we will not speak up and agree with them in fear of hurting someone’s feelings or someone opposing their side. We fear to face reality so we hide behind this one-way mirror watching while we could be stating our opinion but then decide to complain when we are not heard. We live for acceptance. This is clear evidence that shows we are naturally born cruel but we are also born
