Due to lack of communication with the British king, Jefferson must resort to methods that enhance the mind's way of thinking and amongst these methods are logos, pathos, and ethos. The American Colonies have asked for the dismissal of unfair taxes and army placement( when no threat is present), but the British king does not oblige. The methods previously mentioned are used, but are hard to identify. Ethos is bestowed throughout the document but is most predominantly found in lines 10-20. Jefferson states that God's laws are correct, That all men are created equal and have certain rights that the government should not be suppressing, but protecting.
Jefferson goes on to list all twenty eights reasons why the colonists are angry with the British government. He lists all twenty eight to really drive the point home that Parliament and the British monarchy have wronged them. One of the grievances listed, “He has plundered our seas, ravages our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people. The parallel structure gives more emphasis to each thing that the king has supposedly done and presents it in a way that appears all the events are connected or possibly occurring at the same time. Jefferson uses diction such as “plunders” and “ravages” to make the king’s crimes seem worse than if Jefferson had just said stolen or taken.

Thomas Jefferson was one of the key founding fathers for our amazing country America. He was vital in the separation from Great Britain. He inspired courage in the patriots to encourage them to fight for their freedom. He was also insert mental in the writing of the declaration of independence. These major feats have made Jefferson a huge part of Americas past and made it so he will never be forgotten.
Due to these atrocities of this, Americans began “to no longer considered themselves British…(and) denied England any authority in the colonies”. Thomas Jefferson, the principle author of the Declaration of Independence, voiced the colonists’ discontent with the British Monarchy and outlined the flaws in King George’s rule. He said that in his “absolute tyranny” over the colonies, King George neglected laws that benefitted the “public good” and appointed government leaders “distant from the depository of their public records…(to) fatigue them into compliance of his measures”. Jefferson also noted that King George “dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people”, an act that he and other the delegates found inexcusable and intolerable. Jefferson also accused King George and Parliament of being “deaf to the voice of justice and consanguinity”.
In the first section of the document Jefferson asserts “it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them,” in this quote Jefferson clearly voices that it’s time for the colonies to “dissolve the political bands” from the motherland that has both spoonfed and disciplined them. His justification for this is provided when he establishes that they have the natural born rights from the “Laws of Nature and Nature’s God entitle them,” which King George III has outright deprived from

Both characters are viewed as promiscuous and flirtatious; evidenced rough their obsession with alluring clothing. Similarly the phrases "and now you've gay bracelets and bright feathers three" of the Ruined maid and “ostrich feathers in Of Mice and Men have very similar connotations. The synonymy in presenting them both as birds signifies the writer’s intentions to portray them as glamorous, with a natural almost animal like confidence.
He takes his stance on the importance of religious freedom through exploring the atrocities committed in England over religious persecution. He accounts these atrocities by pointing out that, “millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned” and he goes on to say, “yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity”.1 This is undeniably the basis for his logic in spiritual freedom. Jefferson is referring to the Quartering Acts that the king imposed upon the colonists. This is a grievance because the Quartering Acts were a direct offense on the colonist’s natural rights. The colonists were forced to house the soldiers without their consent which is Britan controlling them. This also angered colonists because they were forced into providing resources for soldiers who they did not consent to house. Which, like the other grievance, reveals that the King can still do whatever he wants with the colonists which violates the idea of individual rights.
By pointing out the flaws in Great Britain, the new colonists would more firmly believe that becoming independent would be the best course of action, no matter what the consequences, because whatever they are, it has to better than being under Great Britain’s power. Jefferson wants his audience to become angry, perhaps even livid, to get the ultimate goal; independence.
