As well as writing the Declaration of Independence and serving as our president of the U.S., Thomas Jefferson invented and improved many things that we now use that will help us and advance technology we have today. Many of Jefferson’s inventions are hard to determine whether he was the first one to invent it or not because he never patented his work. One of his inventions is a mechanical pedometer. A pedometer is a tracker used to count your steps in order to promote and motivate you to exercise more.
This being, inventing the cipher wheel, improving the plow, improving the sundial, building the University of Virginia, becoming a vice president in 1797, and last but not least, writing the Declaration of Independence. He had an organic approach to farming, and the hard-worker was dedicated to the exploration of agriculture. He often experimented with crops and plants. The president failed many times as a farmer, but he never gave up. Thomas was the writer of many books, he spoke several languages, and was known to be a creative problem solver. Another invention that helped us revolutionize how we fight this war is the telegraph. This invention is the most useful that we’ve used throughout this war. This invention allows our generals to communicate almost instantly, becoming very useful during times of crisis during this war. This invention was made by Samuel Morse. Jefferson wanted America not to be like the European monarchies that fell due to religious strife, so he emphasized a secular government. Jefferson, following closely with the ideas of John Locke, stressed the importance of the protection of individual rights against the government.
