Garrett Morgan was one of these people. He made many inventions, which some of them we use today. Also, he helped save many lives using one of his inventions. Garrett Morgan should be recognized in Black History Month for his inventions that were the basis of science and technology today. Morgan had a good childhood. He was born in the year 1877. He was born in Paris, Kentucky. Both of his parents were slaves. He had 10 siblings, and he was the 7th to be born. Morgan is famous for his inventions. The most notable ones are the early gas mask and better stoplight. Also, the contributions he made were the starting point of more modern inventions. One of the most important events he was a part of was the Cleveland Waterworks Explosion (July 25, 1916). He used his gas mask design to go in and save many people. According to world book online “In 1916, Morgan used his device to rescue more than 20 workers who were trapped in a smoke-filled water tunnel in Cleveland.” Morgan saved more than 20 peoples lives in that smoke filled tunnel with his gas mask. Garrett Morgan and his inventions are important to Black History Month because they were the starting point of modern technology. The most important thing I learned about him was that he saved more than 20 people in the Lake Erie Mine. The legacy he left behind was his amazing inventions that are the basis of modern technology today. What surprised me the most about him was that his inventions are something we used to make modern technology. Studying him has affected my life because I now know that common things I use were made by him. My thinking has changed through learning about his story.
