Thomas Jefferson lived in Eastern Virginia. In Virginia he learned to dance and behave like an English gentleman. Thomas Jefferson was tall and thin but he was very smart. At the age 14 his father became ill then his father died. So he set off to get married Martha Wayles Skelton in Charles City County, Virginia in 1748, Martha Wayles Skelton married Thomas Jefferson on New Year's Day in 1772. Martha tragically died at the age of of 33, On September 6, 1781—20 years before Thomas Jefferson was elected president. He never married again. They had 6 children but only 2 grew up, the others died young.
Thomas Jefferson was a planter, surveyor and an architect. He inherited a large estate from his father. He started to build his home Monticello when he was 26 years old.
