Mr. Thomas Spann Jr. is a man who has been working in his industry for seven years now, so it would be in my best interest to remember his words of advice, especially since I have not even finished school. Mr. Spann started his career working for Suntrust as an investment banker. He then moved on to own his own company to finally working with NCR, National Cash Register. Mr. Spann had a lot of experience and many tips he was willing to share with me. Mr. Spann received his finance degree from Morehouse and now works for NCR. NCR is a company that helps businesses with card transaction and other technological services. One of the examples he told me was about Chilis, not only do they help them with bankcards but also gift cards and the interaction display at many Chilis that can help you view the menu and drinks. Mr. Spann also help mom and pop stores. Its not solely for large chains. At smaller store, the main business for Mr. Spann is setting them up to be able to take in cards and help keep those transaction properly documented. As we talked about what he does for NCR, Mr. Spann explained how it is different handling big companies like Chilis and small mom and pop businesses. Spann what were some of his biggest challenges to which he replied and advise me to always network. There are many organizations that help other business with card transactions. The main way to attract customers is by lowering the price so numbers are steadily headed towards zero. The lower prices would help you build market share in order to make more profits. If you network than you can meet people that could bring in more business. As Mr. Spann said “Network, network, network”, it is a very important aspect for the industry.
