In Rebecca Moore Howard’s discussion, she explains the three types of plagiarism. These three types of plagiarism Howard describes are cheating, non-attribution, and patchwriting. My understanding of Howard’s interpretation of these forms of plagiarism is that cheating is when a student doesn't want to complete the assignment themselves, instead turns in writing completed by someone else and claims it is their own. In addition to my understanding of the cheating form of plagiarism, my understanding of the non-attribution form of plagiarism is when a student incorporates work from a source in their writing, but neglects to cite or properly cite their source of information. The form of plagiarism the student is guilty of is cheating. When looking at the original text you can see it is phrased as “The phenomenon of extremely violent video games is a dubious leap forward in the ability to mainline violence into the minds and lives of young people. Players of violent video games are not simply passive viewers of realistically depicted violence. They instead become the glorified, gun-in-hand, on-screen perpetrators of murder and other criminal acts.” and upon examining the student’s paragraph it was noticeable that the student’s writing was identical to the original text “It is important to note that players of violent video games are not simply passive viewers of realistically depicted violence. They instead become the glorified, gun-in-hand, on-screen perpetrators of murder and other criminal acts.” The student paid no regard to any form of citation, quotation, and copied exactly what was from the original text in order instill the false perception that it was the student’s original writing.
