Expression of feelings is an action that’s displayed by the majority of individuals. Expressing how an individual feels about a particular subject or situation is a natural action. When choosing descriptive words that an individual may use to express their feelings are often times influenced by that individual’s personal thoughts and social norms. The term thug is an example of a descriptive word that is used to describe how an individual could feel about a person. The meaning, behind the word Thug, is viewed differently throughout society. Thug is defined as “a cruel or vicious ruffian, robber, or murderer” (Dictionary.com). In some societies, a thug is viewed as a well-respected individual within the community. In other communities, a thug is viewed as a criminal, one who commits acts that are against the law with no remorse. Thug is a label that is thrown around in the public more freely than it has been in the past. Thug is a label to categorize individuals who portray a particular image and behavior. A thug is usually seen in the media as an African American male, 17 – 27 years of age, dreaded hairstyle, and wearing baggy fitting clothing. …show more content…

Due to the public entertainment interest being depictive of an aggressive and negative lifestyle, the image that was attached to the word thug brought fear to the public. Tupac’s image at the time was the ideal fit for what the media wanted the public to recognize as the image of a thug. Although Tupac publicly displayed his resentment to the judicial system, he also displayed his love for his community and the career in acting. However, Tupac’s positive image was not displayed through the media as his negative acts were. A person that is labeled as a thug, an individual who the media portrays to be feared, would have no business acting alongside well-respected
