The inventor of the World Wide Web and one of Time Magazine’s ‘100 Most Important People of the 20th Century’, Sir Tim Berners-Lee is a scientist and academic whose work has changed many parts of our lives. He invented the World Wide Web in 1989, while working at CERN. He wrote the first web client and server in 1990. His specifications of URIs, HTTP, and HTML were great as web technology spread. Tim Berner-Lee is Director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), a web standards organization founded in 1994 that develops technologies (guidelines, software, and tools) to lead the Web to its full potential.
