Abstract
The FDA publishes the food code that assists food control jurisdictions at any level of government by providing them with a legal basis for adjusting the retail and food service section of the industry.The federal regulators use thes FDA code as a model to ensure their own food safety rules and to be consistent with the national food regulatory policy.

It required all packaged foods to apply nutrition labeling and all health claims for foods to be consistent with terms defined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.The next year 1991, Nutrition facts, basic per-serving nutritional information, were required on foods under the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1990. Food labels were to list the most important nutrients.In 2002 the Farm Bill required that retailers provide country-of-origin labeling(COOL) for fresh beef, pork, and lamb.In 2003 there was an announcement made that the FDA would require food labels to include trans fat content.In 2004 the Food Allergy Labeling and Consumer Protection Act was passes.It required labeling of any food that contains one or more of: peanuts, soybeans, cow's milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, and wheat.In 2008 NuVal announced - The nutritional value (NuVal) System which scored food on a scale of 1 to 100. The higher the NuVal Score, the higher the nutrition of a food product and Mars
