For my professional video reflection paper, I focused more on improving my interview and often time I was asked what type of salary I am looking for and this is where I kind of get frozen. I never really like talking about money, and to sum it all up, it’s easier if you throw salary at me and I will just take it. I have been to a few interviews and I have not received a call back and their response has always been, “We have decided to go with other candidate.” I am hoping to learn something from the videos and improve my interviewing skills.
So, the 4 videos I have chosen is, “Tips to Negotiating the Best Salary”, “How to Ace an Interview: 5 Tips from a Harvard Career Advisor”, “10 Things Employers Want from a New Hire”, and, “Body Language That Gets the Job.”
I started off with “How to Ace an Interview.” This video suggested that we research 3 areas before our interview. Self, Employers and the industry you are interviewing for. When researching on self, analyze your relevant qualifications. You should ask yourself what qualification can you give the company, what makes you qualified? During this video, an emphasis were made excelling in the interview is the most important step before you can negotiate salary. I thought this made absolute sense, you would look silly if you didn’t do well in your interview and you attempted to negotiate salary. There is no way the employer would even ask you about salary if your interview wasn’t that good. She made a point to be aware of starting position salary and made suggestion to plan for the first 90 days. This give you the opportunity to show the interviewer your knowledge and planning skills. I have never thought of this but how do I plan for something I cannot foresee. This seem like an impossible thing to do, however, I will try and research more on this and perhaps I will get a better understanding of
